Karamba Security Releases XGuard 3.0 to Extend the Depth of Its IoT Product Security Suite

Enhanced application execution control is introduced, as well as distro-agnostic protection for Linux & Android systems and for Containerized Applications

HOD HASHARON, Israel, March 20, 2024 – Karamba Security, the world leader in End-to-End product security, is releasing XGuard 3.0.

XGuard’s full set of security controls for protection and monitoring is now available in several usage configurations to address a range of cybersecurity needs among Karamba’s customers. The scope of systems and IoT device types that XGuard protects has been widened to include:

• Distro-Agnostic Protection for Linux and Android Devices:
  • Native integration into the development pipeline for embedded distributions such as Yocto or Buildroot
  • Bolt-on Security for stock distributions such as Ubuntu or Redhat
• Android Support
• Container Image Security

XGuard Security Controls

The XGuard Suite of defense-in-depth security controls protects and monitors automotive and IoT devices, offering:

• Device Security Metrics and Event Monitoring to be transmitted to a backend system
• Automatically-applied Application Allow-list to protect against dropper attacks
• File Access Control to protect sensitive data and programs from tampering and leaks
• Associative Execution to limit execution rights per application
• Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) to protect against buffer-overflow and other in-memory exploits

Native Integration into the Development Pipeline: XGuard is added to the toolchain of Linux, QNX, or RTOS systems, for automated security protection and monitoring. The protection is deterministic and lightweight, and no changes to source code are involved.

Bolt-on Security: A post-production “off-the-shelf” XGuard installation toolkit enables installing the XGuard agent on a running Linux system. This extends the applicability of XGuard to cases in which customers prefer to apply XGuard protection to the final system without the need to integrate it into the development process.

Android Support: XGuard is now available for protection of Android-based devices such as in-vehicle infotainment and smart home management systems.

Container Image Protection: With version 3.0, XGuard’s protection can now be automatically applied to containerized applications, such as those based on Docker, Kubernetes, and similar.
